I have been a avid collector of badges for over 30 years and thought it was about time I joined this forum..

My name is Ray Smith, ex-Scots Guard, from Aberbeeg in South Wales.

My main interests are:

• Britsh WW II plastic economy badges
• Polish WW II badges
• New Zealand WW I and before badges
• Brigade of Guards insignia

I'm looking forward to contribution to the forum.

Hi Ray,
A very warm welcome. I have always had soft spot for Wales since going to school in Penally, Pembrokeshire, for a few months during WW2 and getting extra maths because I could not learn to sing 'Land of My Fathers' in Welsh, a song I much admire, but it was no go with me, I just could not handle it, and curiously, because of that I developed a love of mathematics. so 'Thank you Wales"

Hi John, Thanks for your warm welcome to the forum, I guess you must have been one of the many evacuee,s that was sent to wales during ww2.
I can remember them arriving in our area and going to the local train station to greet them.
A lot of them stayed in the local chapel hall until they were found place,s.
A long time ago John.
What are your interest in militaria?

Hi Ray,

At the start of the war my sister and I were evauated from Gillingham, Kent, to a 'Safe' place: DOVER !!!!!!!. Yeah, that's right, and one of the first cross channel shells fell in the garden of the house we were billeted in, but we had moved on by then, back to the 'safer' retreat of Gillingham, with Chatham, its barracks, and the Dockyard right next door, which of course were equally fine targets.

Life became a bit of a travelling circus after that, and I was in Penally because my father was stationed there for a while with the Royal Marines.
