Billy,
Don't suppose there's any chance of cuff and cap badge close-ups, is there? With thanks, JT |

Thanks very much.
Looks as though he is wearing the Service Dress, but is still badged to his VTC unit. The VTC/VF experts will know, but I'm wondering if this photo might have been taken during the transitional period between the end of the VTC and the formation of the VF? First time I've seen that marksman style badge.

I think it’s actually Marksman 1st Class badge; the bullet minus the intertwined red ‘M’.

First Class Shot
Billy, JT,
I am happy to be corrected, but I have always understood that just the bullet is "First Class Shot", which is a category under "Marksman". Every volunteer, in the same way as the regulars and territorials, had their shooting graded; the top two tiers were then rewarded with a badge. This would be consistent with the Marksman's being a fancier, more conspicuous badge! Of course, only the top tier was recognised in the regulars. Best regards, Tim |

Much appreciated Tim. As I said previously, it's the first time I have seen the bullet on a uniform.
