Default Middlesex PWB and SA Scroll badges

Greetings all.

Whilst drooling my way through the catalogue for the DNW auction on 20th August, I saw the following:

https://www.dnw.co.uk/auctions/catal...70564&search=1

What think you PWB afficianados?

And then there is this offering, which I have never encountered before, nor knew they existed:
https://www.dnw.co.uk/auctions/catal...70569&search=1

Seeing the quality of items being auctioned, does it lend some credibility to Officer's PWB badges?

What a collection though, both militaria and medals.

Regards.

Brian

Not a PWPB aficionado but 1 genuine with 2 fake badges.

Re the second link I’d want to see a picture of the reverse and I suspect the WM badge is plated as you can see a brass colour showing on high points. Also the description and corner of this scroll suggests a not very high quality casting i.e. potentially lost wax or similar process.

DNW have had some howlers of late sadly. For me them cataloging an item in a sale does not give it credibility. My motto as always is buy the item and not the seller or the story.

I would be very cautious with that particular saleroom regarding anything other than medals.

Re DNWs silver PWPB described as:

‘‘,another officer’s example in die-cast silver plate (Firmin London) the extra scroll secured in the same manner, two lug fasteners,’’

The badge is from the same stable as this fake for sale on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Great-War...sAAOSwfhde3RJU note the dodgy Firmin mark and ominous ‘SILVER’ stamp.

I dread to think what someone may end up paying tomorrow at DNW for this lot..

As a slight aside would anyone have the Crown Imperial article written by Bob Quested on Pals badges?

Hi Luke

Thank you for your help.

The one I have not made by die casting, I can see by the look and feel of it.

Yours is either die cast or a lost wax copy of the die cast fake.

It is not die stamped.
