Thanks Alan, it certainly has the appearance of a WW1 badge to me.

Hi Simon, the site at netley is a park now, the centre of the hospital is still there, and is a museum, with some uniforms on show.

Alan,
It is definitely to the unit based at Netley in the 1st World War.
I now have the medals to three members of the Boer War unit, including those to the Quarter Master who was actually a pharmacist and one of the Assistant Surgeons (there were 2), Herbert Davies. Herbert Davies died of dysentry in 1900 whilst on active service. His medal came with a significant amount of ephemera, including a number of high quality cabinet photos of him in uniform. A badge is clearly visible on his slouch hat and it is not the pattern under discussion in this thread. Further, as I have been able to blow up these images I also know that the button in the original thread you referred to earlier in this thread, is also not of the Boer War period, but rather the Netley unit.
Hwyl,
Kevin

Evening all.

Just to confirm the Welsh Hospital badge is WW1 (there is photographic evidence of the badge being worn).
