Default H.M.S. Queen Victoria

Hi,

Can anyone confirm if this ship existed. All sources on Google do not confirm the existence of a H.M.S. Queen Victoria. However, a page by Wolf's Shipyard does confirm it's existence and 3 other Battleships of the Queen Victoria class!

The 3 other Battleships of the Queen Victoria class, Nile, Trafalgar & Devastation do not feature on Google either (or at least their history does not). None of these ships feature in "Ships Of The Royal Navy" by J.J. Colledge either.

A mystery to me. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

BTW it is a bit difficult searching when you do not provide any date. All those names were used several times.

Did you check Wikipedia?

It has HMS Trafalgar (1887) and HMS Nile (1888) as two ships of the Trafalgar class: Trafalgar-class ironclad

A list: HMS Devastation

The search on Wikipedia on HMS Queen Victoria does not give a direct result. But it says there was HMS Victoria and that gives again several ships Search Results: HMS Victoria

Default H.M.S. Queen Victoria

Thank you for the very fast replies.

I should have mentioned I was specifically looking for an HMS Queen Victoria of circa WW1.

I believe Mike Vee may have the answer with it being requisitioned and put into use with the RFA.

The article by Wolf's Shipyard is misleading though. http://www.wolfsshipyard.com/Misc/Wo...oria/queen.htm

Thanks again. Your response now allows me to solve an answer for the attached Cap Tally.

It lists the Queen Victoria (no mention of HMS ) as having been 'laid down' at "Portsmouth Dockyard" but :

Quote:
The largest vessel launched at Portsmouth during World War I was the 27,500-ton battleship Royal Sovereign in 1915. The only other launchings during the war were the submarines J1 and J2 in 1915, and K1, K2 and K5 in 1916.

It states that the Trafalgar was 'laid down' at Harland & Wolf ?

Devastation was 'laid down' at "Devonport Dockyard" in 1914 but it doesn't appear on the "List of ships built at Devonport from 1694 to 1971".

https://www.worldnavalships.com/devonport_dockyard.htm

I think that Wolf's Shipyard is a fantasy site !

Some sites list it as SS Queen Victoria.

Quote:
It was laid from ships underway, three paddle steamers, the "Mona Isle", "Prince Edward" and "Queen Victoria", being converted from this service by removing fittings from the after decks and substituting troughs on either side to take the nets, weights and floats, the mooring anchors being hung over the stern.

The Wolfs Shipyard site appears to be fantasy. Convincing though, especially with the photo's of the ships, full specifications, armament, War service etc.

Thanks to Mike Vee for the excellent investigative work.
