Hey, I own a shoulder title exactly like that. Glad to see it may be authentic.

What's the chances of this being good?

Hi Mike, It looks like one of the starch back pattern titles. 1 Can Para was at home by the time these came on issue, but they were available in the summer of 1945.

Not sure what "good" means John. The only patterns I would take as worn by the Battalion are the Airborne Canada, the printed 1 Canadian Parachute Battalion, the 1 Canadian Parachute Battalion with the backing, (looks the same as this pattern but has a tan backing), and the 1 Canadian Parachute Battalion Canadian melton patterns. The starch back pattern was not available until after the unit had returned to Canada. The starch back patterns were not an authorized issue for any unit in the Canadian army. They were a purchase item.
A 1 Can Para fellow may have acquired the starch back on his own, but there are some problems with the time line. The battalion was back in Canada, except for convalescents, some reinforcements, and some detached fellows, by mid June 1945. There is a lot of confusion over these, and the best explanation is in Ken Joyce's Into the Maelstrom.
