I just picked up a group of medals and badges to an Australian survey corps member.
with this lot were these titles. if I would have come across them singularly I would have said there British however they all came together with other aussie items.
so my question is are these Australian o at least worn by Australian survey corps?
thanks in advance

Hi bc,

Definitely Australian, appear as Amendment 9 of August 1937 to SO Dress 1935, para 79(ii), Brass - Sealed pattern. Also appear in Price Vocabulary of Clothing and Necessaries 1940 at 6d each.

They don't appear in the initial edition of SO Dress 1935 but Military Board (DOS) memo 10085 dated 19 September 1934 notes that Survey Corps titles were now in stock and initial issue was approved. Also 6MD correspondence register has an entry dated 26 May 1933 that shoulder titles for Permanent Forces were approved and orders had been placed. Whether that included the Survey Corps title I do not know.

bc,

The following are listed in Amdt 9, August 1937 to SO Dress 1935 - all in brass:
RAA, RAE, AASC, AAMC, AAOC, AAVC, PROVOST STAFF

The RAA title was approved on 18 April 1933 but I think this was in use well before this, as were AASC titles. PROVOST STAFF titles were approved on 2 June 1933 and AAOC titles were in stock at 19 September 1934.

Keith

The title STAFF CORPS in gilt was worn by officers of that corps from 1921.

As far as I know, the only countries with a Survey Corps were Australia and Russia. And these are definitely not Russian!
Great badge, another one for the wish list.
