cloth shoulder titles?
I`m afraid I must admit to a very limited knowledge of cloth shoulder titles These six came with metal badges that I do collect, when a very reputable collection was sold last year. Can any members tell me if they are ok,and what era they came from i;eww2 or post war. many thanks in advance.

The Gaels (Argylls) is ww2 for sure, not definite about the others although I believe a couple could be.

Hallamshire could be WW1 1/4th York and Lancs. 2/4th had the same title but with yellow letters.

Hello,
The Hallamshire (red letters on serge) shoulder title is also WW2, worn by the Hallamshire Battalion, 49th DIV. Regards Normandie18 |

Thanks I am aware that the same title was worn in WW2 BUT construction is typical of WW1, heavy embroidered letters and the 'cheesecloth' backing are indicators that it may be earlier than WW2.

Cloth titles
personally not as fan of this Hallamshire. It could just as well be of Pakistani manufacture.
The style and colours of the North Staffords is post-war. The A&SH only wore a coloured shoulder title for a matter of months in WW2 (and that was probably printed) before adopting a tartan flash, so survival of a pristine embroidered version would seem unlikely. I cannot comment on what the ACF wore post-war. Stephen.

I cannot say either way about these but they kook quite "NEW" to me. Maybe the 2nd Durham LI ,yellow on green has been worn as it looks like sewing holes around the edges?

I agree. They look right, but I feel they are of more modern manufacture than period pieces.
