Despatch rider RAF or RN?
I bought this nice badge at the weekend, at first I convinced myself it was RAF, but now I'm wondering if it could be WRNS?
All thoughts appreciated. Rob |

Hi Rob,
I can't help I'm afraid but I can see why you bought it, I wouldn't mind that 'salty' example myself, nice. Cheerio, Roy

Same pattern as the unofficial Army ones. Would this suggest RAF or RFC? I am not clued up, just stabbing in the dark. Army DRs were all RCoS I think?

Gents,
Does anyone have an image or one of these badges being worn? Cheers, Roy

Not RAF but it's the same badge.

Thank you all for the replies.
Phil I think its unlikely to be RFC as they seemed to favour Army colours? Jon, two super pictures, I've always wondered if "DR" was only worn by RCOS personnel and "MC" for motorcycle orderlies of other Regiments, but that is clearly an RA title worn with a DR badge. Rob |

Thank you Jon,
Great pictures and nice to see. Rob, I suspect RAF due to the colour. It would seem logical but nothing to back that up. Cheerio, Roy

Hi Rob,
I thought I would revise this RAF Despatch Rider thread to share a recent find (see pics). As you can see this one is clearly blue. Although extremely difficult to photograph due to how dark it is. The more I look at the blue colour the more it looks less like RAF and more of a Navy blue. Again RAF or Navy related? Thoughts, views or opinions always welcome. Cheers, Roy

Interesting. The colours remind me of the badges worn by the Mechanised Transport Corps who did employ despatch riders.

Thanks Rob & Jon,
Thanks for your comments. Part of the fascination of these unofficial patches is that so little is known about them. I was surprised at the colour of this one. Something new to learn with every patch. Cheers, Roy
