Cross referencing EJ Martin's article of 1938 against the 1939 Army list shows the following missing ones. He stated 10 but in fact it was 15:

1. Bishop Veseys - Warwickshire Regiment badge.
2. Brighton GS - school badge
3. Christ College Brecon - South Wales Borderers.
4. Coatham School - Green Howards.
5. Grimsby Municipal College - Lincolnshire regt.
6. Haberdasher Askes - School coat of arms badge. The cadet corps (closed 1930) had been 3rd Cadet Bn RF.
7. Hulme Grammar Manchester. School badge
8. King's College Wimbledon - School badge
9. King's School Rochester - school badge.
10. Lancing College - school badge
11. Morrisons College - school badge.
12. Mount St Mary's College - school cadet corps badge
13. Sherborne School - Dorsetshire regiment badge
14. Stamford High School - School badge
15. West Buckland school - Devonshire Regiment.

I have been in correspondance with Hulme Grammar School, Oldham and they didnt have an OTC. They did have a CCF which first began on 11.2.1941 as 601 (The Hulme Grammar School Oldham) Squadron, ATC.
On 1.9.1948 O.H.G.S. CCF replaced this unit and it was affiliated to the local T.A. Battalion, the 41st Royal Tank Regiment (T.A.), which was formally the 10th Bn. The Manchester Regiment prior to WW2. The Cadets wore the black beret and RTR cap badge.

I have 4 versions of the Hulme Grammar School badge.

The first is the all WM lions head (K&K 2576)

The second is the GM demi-lion and scrolls with H.G.S and Cadet Corps thereon (K&K 2577)

The 3rd is a GM demi-lion and scrolls as above but with H.G.S. and O.T.C. theron.

My 4th is just a Bz OSD badge of the second version

K& K also perpetuate the myth that this is in Oldham.
Hulme School Manchester set up a cadet corps in 1915. The cadet corps badge is the one in K&K. It then became a OTC. The OTC badge had an amended scroll.

The cadet corps badge was replaced by the OTC version when the school OTC was granted OTC status. The CC continued to run in parallel for the younger boys. This change of status is dated by the school history:

In October, 1935 the School Cadet Corps, on the strength of its record, was one of seven units chosen by the War Office from 194 applicants for promotion to the status of Officers Training Corps. The School unit was attached to the Manchester Regiment and received much help from its officers in the early years of its altered status.

https://www.whgs-academy.org/Portals...0of%20WHGS.pdf

The single lion head badge does not belong to that school cadet unit as far as I can find. Hulme GS Manchester have come back to me about their CCF cap badge and confirmed that the cadets wore the Manchester Regiment cap badge after the OTC/CC one. This rules out the single lion head being a CCF badge from either Hulme Manchester or Oldham schools and strongly suggest that K&K and Rawlins misidentified K&K 2576 as a cadet badge.

Default Ottershaw boarding school surrey

I had the great pleasure of attending Ottershaw boarding school in the 1970’s. during that time we had a CCF run by Peter Curtis (Science teacher when not running cadets). The Army part wore a Queens cap badge.

I am absolutely certain that the school wore the first pattern round OTC badge as a cap and as a sporran badge. In 1937 they had adopted the Cameronians bonnet badge which they wore alongside the first pattern badge on their sporrans.

The Corporation badge shown was worn by the Glasgow Corporation staff and interestingly one with an 'Education' scroll was recently sold on ebay.

Once again an error in K&K is the source of the mis-information.

The misidentified K&K 2564 Glasgow High School - this is a similar Education badge - an example sold in 2011 as a possible school inspectors/ truants badge,

For my parent's sins I am an Old Wilsonian.
I served in the RAF section of the CCF from 1981-1986
I half hinched the brass cap badge from the Army section hut in the Mid 80s, there were many lying around in those days. Nearly all the pictures showed the scrollless badge. There were certainly no scrolled badges lying around! Can't say I saw any in the early pictures either.
The silver badge is the prefects badge.

The animal on the front is actually a wolf. Yes! Hard to belive but it is.
In the eraly 1980s it was discovered that the school did not, as it thought, have a coat of arms.
The chair of governors, himself a veteran of WWI paid for a coat of arms to be registered.

K&K show a brass rose badge for this school. It did not have an OTC nor is any Cadet Corps listed in the 1930's Army Lists and the badge shown is perfect match for a Lancs collar badge.

The school certainly had a cadet unit in WW2,

https://collections.hampshireculture...oke-army-cadet

It is not clear why they would not be wearing the Hants badge like all other ACFs in the county.

A slidered brass rose badge exists but it is unattributed outside K&K. A white metal version has been attibuted to Hampshire County Cadets which the school would have been a part of. It's possible the sldiered badge dates from 1930-2 when the cadet units were not allowed to wear the Hants regtl badge.

When I see what a lot of dealers on eBay and elsewhere are asking for OTC badges then I am absolutely certain that now is the time for a well researched and illustrated book on OTC badges.

Alan all your research ought to be available to as wide an audience as possible.

Peter,

I am afraid it may be a few years before I can dedicate the time as a retirement project.

I know that I have all of the OTCs now recorded and an working on a list of all JTCs in 1941. The next challenge is to try and confirm what the JTC changes were. I have evidence of bespoke JTC badges, the continued use of OTC designs and also the adoption of regular army badges but there is no single source to draw on.

I hope to publish an album shortly.

Default Peter Symonds OTC

Here is a fascinating photo of the Officer Cadets of Peter Symonds School In this inter war photo shows they are wearing Hampshire Regt cap badges and collar badges.

The use of KD shorts in UK with tunics is unusual but not unique.

The school rose to OTC status c.1935 and before that had been a cadet corps affilated to the Hampshire Regiment.

1947 JTC shows Hants badge was still worn.

The Glasgow Corporation cap badge with the "Education" scroll was worn by school caretakers/janitors.

Alan, I hate to correct you, however, I must. The Wilson’s ‘horse’ is actually a Wolf… I know!
Whilst I was at the school the chair of governors found that the coat of arms had never been registered and had it approved.
I believe it is now more Wolf like.
