Default 27th LC

One of my friends gave me this button of the 27th light Cavalry.

Curiously it comes from the Pas de Calais in the north of France while this unit did not come to this region during the 1st World War.

What do you think about this?

Thank you
JP

The first thing that comes to mind is that some, not many, BOs on leave in England from the Indian Army wound up attached to British units in August '14. But that is unlikely, I think. The 27th, which stayed on the NWF, sent reinforcement drafts to units in France in so I think it much more likely that the button belonged to a 27th sowar or NCO transferred to one of the units who were in France.

The button is listed in Nath's book as right for the 27th, apparently no distinction between Officers and ORs buttons.

While most Indian army regiments did not go to France they did send drafts attached to others..

It could have also dropped from a collector's pocket while holidaying in France..One never knows

Given the fact that, in common with all Dominion forces, wounded Indian Army soldiers were eventually evacuated to England, via the English Channel, the presence of this button in Northern France is not unlikely. It most probably came from a Dressing Station or a Field Hospital in the area or was given as a souvenir.
