Default WAAF cap badge

A recent purchase: a WAAF cap badge. I have been told by knowledgeable collectors on this forum that the Women Auxiliary Air Force was established 10th May 1940 along with the WAAS. I guess the cap badge must be quite scarcer than its WAAS counterpart. Full of enthusiasm I have bought on ebay what was advertised as a South African Women Auxiliary Air Force brass shoulder title, but in the event it has turned out to be a much more common WAAS title... I guess brass WAAF shoulder titles are not easy to come across!

Hi, the WAAF is more scarce than the WAAS, but not unobtainable. Regards Andrew

Default WAAF arm titles and a collar badge

Managed to add to the lot a couple of WAAF brass titles and, alas, a single collar badge....

These appear to be bronzed rather than brass, being more of a brownish colour. They and the cap/collar badges came in both.

I agree, the titles certainly look the pinkish colour of polished bronze.

A bit of a late follow on really, but what type of uniform would a 1940 SAAF WAAF have worn?
Army or RAF style?

Army style. Officers wore drab Bara theater jackets and skirts with f/s caps. Light khaki also worn. Other ranks wore ATS style caps in Khaki or f/s caps.
