Question 25th Dragoons - no swords ?

Hi, did anyone see this on eBay item number 171940485697 (Military Army Badges various regiments pre 1975 Hussars Lancers 25th Dragoons) Finished now but can still be seen. In with the staybrights is a brass stamped out 25th Dragoons badge with no swords and odd rear fittings that are hard to see on pic. Is it a fantasy badge as it is not in Peters war raised book.

I think it could be the overlaid part of an NCO's sleeve badge, perhaps one of Fig. 66-69?

It's the overlay from a reproduction badge. On genuine badges there aren't the fillets between the XXV and the crown, they are two seperate items. I managed by accident to seperate the two parts of a reproduction once by soaking it in Nitromors, the badge was painted and I was trying to clean it up so they must be glued together rather than briased.

Hi Rob,

This is the unfinished brass overlay of the comprised parts of the 25D badge, and this example is trying to resemble the Gaunt design; however, it's contemporary tat.

Best,

Marcus

Note: there do exist fakes with this overlay that have the correct voided segments and the white-metal reverse of the badge almost matches the original Gaunt counterparts. That is, with the exception of the slider and crown that are the most distinctive faults, and an evident flaw under the "25th" along the scroll bottom edge, too. There's a lot more, but without pics in support I probably wouldn't make much sense.
