Hi Andrew,
Scroll looks like QOR and helmet plate looks typical colonial rather than a British regimental one. Maybe Queensland Own Rifles, but only taking a stab in the park here.

regards
Steven

Hi Steven, thank you. I agree that it looks more colonial than British. Maybe some of the Australians on the forum might know if your guess is correct. Regards Andrew

That's very nice, I wonder what the first letters actually are, the plate itself looks rather like a rankers 1878 pattern.

The Queens Own Rifles of Canada museum assures me that it isn't one of theirs. They say it is a British Rifles helmet plate. Can any of you confirm this and if so which unit? Regards Andrew

Thanks Peter.

I still think it is QOR, but if it is 2VR, can anyone tie it down to a unit? Regards Andrew

In my opinion all Vs I have seen (mostly from Victoria) in such cyphers are very sharp at the bottom.. Thus I do not read it as 2VR. More 2CR or 2OR.

(just want to add to the confusion).

Thank you. The first letter is a Q, I am sure. I have seen other badges with a Q like this before. I also think that the 2nd letter is an O, and at least we all agree on the last letter being an R. Regards Andrew
