Unknown collar badge with Liver bird & KC
Hi all, perhaps you can identify this badge for me, it must be a collar badge as it is only 28mm high. It depicts a Liver Bird with a Kings crown; probably just a Police badge but who knows. Thx Iain. Sorry if the pics aren't that good.

The Liver Bird was not used often by the military and never ( as far as I am aware ) in combination with a crown.
I think this is a non military badge, probably police ( although at one time the liver bird worn by the poilce as a collar did not have a crown ) The liver bird was used by: Liverpool Rifle Brigade on waist belt 5th Lancs RVC on helmet plate Liverpool Press Guard on embroidered pouch and on cross belt plate Liverpool Volunteer Guard on cap badge 5th Kings as arm badge on battledress and As a company combat helmet badge by "A" company 5/8 Kings ( design said to be based on an arm badge worn during WW2 ) ( and of course as the formation sign of the 23rd Armoured Brigade ) P.B.

Thanks Peter, I've had this badge for at least 20 years; I cant even remember how it came into my possession and I never knew what it was. When I moved to SA I lost touch totally with badge collecting until now.
Thx again & regards Iain |

The badge is a collar badge 1953-1967 as worn by the former Liverpool City Police. Therey were worn in pairs with the bird facing inwards in each case.
best wishes, Dave. |

Further to my previous posting. I now notice that the badge as on it a King's Crown. The dates should be 1935-1953 with a chrome finish or 1920-1935 with a white metal finish.

It seems to have the sprig of broom in its beak which would make it a Liver Bird.
P.B.

Thank you all for the input; it is definitely a Liver bird from the Liver Pool, (sorry the photo isnt a bit larger,) and it is a chrome badge so 35 - 53 range.
