Just saw this and agree with you all.

I have always thought that the uniform in the poster was of
a more Spanish design! Check out the Irish Brigade's uniform under Gen. O'Duffy in the Spanish Civil War!

You have to remember on the German "feel", Irelands history of allying themselves with England's enemies over the centuries lead to the many issues they experienced at London's hands. Make's you think to be careful what company you keep.

Half Irish here, so no bias on my part either way. I just know my history.

Simon.

Gents,

This is a reasonably old thread, so apologies if I did not make it clear enough in post #10 that the answer is indeed Ireland.

I'll need to find something a bit tougher next time.

Thanks all,

Peter.

Dave,

Certainly no apologies necessary, mate. It's not for me to say, but please feel free to add as much as you see fit to the thread.

I just had a moment of dread in thinking that I had perhaps not clarified the answer (Mrs. PJ will testify to the fact that this wouldn't be the first time! )

All the best,

Peter
