Default Scottish dress but unclear if this is military or civilian

I know even less about Scottish uniforms than I do of English uniforms and consequently have been wondering if any elements of this postcard are military other than the medals that this gentleman is clearly wearing.

In the past someone has helpful written on the back they are Crimea, Indian Mutiny, IGS.

I half wondered whether this could be an actor dressed up as it all seems rather excessive, however, perhaps I am wrong - Is anyone able to provide any insights?

That is not an AS&H sporran. There is actually nothing at all military with regard to his dress, but I can't make out the medals he is wearing. Some may be campaign medals, but they are mounted in a very strange way.

I would say an ex soldier in a Scottish Society of some description dress.

A&S H sporrans have a badgers head on them.

Not a military uniform.

best wishes

This is incredibly helpful - Thanks so much, in particular for the ID of the solider via the getty image link.

The postcard I have is probably around 1910-1915 ish, so of some age but not quite as old as the original image of 1888.

Surely the Badger's head sporrans were only worn by officers.

The badge on the sporran appears to be that of Princess Louise.

That's what I saw which led me to suggest it was A&S related.
