The six tassles are pretty much unique to the A&SH also.

The description from getty is :
Quote:
Sergeant Robert Douglas, 93rd Sutherland Highlanders. Photograph by A. F. Mackenzie, 1888.
An article from the "Perthshire Advertiser, Wednesday, October 13, 1909" has a lot of details about him :

Quote:
he enlisted in the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders when 17 years of age at Perth in 1843, and took part in the Crimean, Indian Mutiny, and Umbeyla campaigns, being the possessor of four medals - Crimea with clasp for Sebastopol, the Turkish medal, Indian Mutiny medal, with clasps for relief and capture of Lucknow, Indian Frontier medal, with clasp for Umbeyla. He gained his discharge in 1864.

For 15 years he acted as Volunteer Drill Instructor at Lennoxtown (Stirlingshire volunteers) after leaving the Army and for 26 years he acted as lodgekeeper to His Grace the Duke of Atholl at Dunkeld House.

I stick with what I originally said.

"an ex soldier in a Scottish Society of some description dress."

best wishes

I posted the information I found to confirm that the photo was taken 24 years after he was discharged from the army .

That design of badge is similar to ones that appear on modern post war sporrans. Again, the sporran in the pic is like nothing ever worn by the regiment in any way. It has some style features related to the A&SH only.
