A dumb question if I may, but why is it assumed that these are for wear with KD, as plenty of other printed patches on Khaki backing was worn on the BD, such as trade patches etc? Allowing for manufacturers variations, the exact shade is probably variable and though some other patches would be darker than these, is it really thought that these were for KD only? Plenty of other printed patches were worn on the BD, of all colours.

Hello Jerry,
I think that a big problem these days is that so many people just make assumptions, they often read far too much into badges in general.

That these particular PR slip-ons were intended for khaki drill is a fact from a primary source and not an assumption if you read what the ACI says about indents!
Of course these are only Instructions from the Army Council, but if they were ignored where are the pictures of PR slip-ons being worn on any type of clothing?

In the mantra of the Forum "Never say never and there are always exceptions"

Further to the discussion of the material used to make the PR titles.

The backing colour has nothing to do with their use on KD. From early 1942 all officially issued slip-on titles were produced as printed titles in this style regardless of where they were to be worn as slip-on titles continued to be worn by infantry regiments in the UK until replaced by the coloured printed titles in 1943. An example for the Bucks Bn dated July 1943 is known.

There is also an earlier AAC title in the same style for the Army Air Corps sealed as a pattern in July 1942.
