Some more info for you :-lanyards 1st btn red,2nd btn blue and 3rd btn green.
Drop zone patches of the corresponding colours are worn by the battalion. When depot Para was in existance attached instructors wore a multi-coloured lanyard.
10 para wore a red X on a black background as a DZ patch.
There wasnt ever an A/A shoulder title worn.

I am afraid that M&B did not mark ORs badges - every one I have seen has been repro. Your para badge has the same straight lower feathers and the die flaw on the wing seen on modern copies. Check out ebay for Taxicar19s badges for the identical die flaw.

sorry

Alan

Default para badge

Many thanks for the info Alan, thats abit of a downer, thought it might of been okay with me getting it all them years ago, bloody fakes, destroying the hobby everywhere you turn.

Would appreciate any help in aquiring some decent badges, new to the para side so quite green on the subject, are theyre any good examples on ebay-its a fakers paradise, but i suppose you need to take the risk, as you do get some good peices from time to time.

cheers

Brian

Hi Brian,

Here are my two for comparison, I think the brass plated one is one of the earliest issued. Both have the curvy feathers like Alan mentions.

Cheers,

Luke

No problem Brian. If you want a WW2 badge lugs are a must as slidered badges were post war, distances between the lugs should not be fantastically far apart as I understand and I am also told that generally war time badges had solid crowns and lions (voided tends to be later - but not always). The curvy feathers on a KC both top and bottom are the key, you must also bare in mind the die flaws present on the left wing on repro's, both of which Alan mentioned.

Yes ebay is a fakers paradise as you put it but on occasion when good badges do come up they can be had at an OK price, had a look for you just now and nothing going in the KC variety but there is a nice QC. I'll keep a look out and PM if one comes along in the near future.

Regards,

Luke

The solid nickel is the first issue to the regiment, then nickel plated and the later wartime issue was the badge with pierced crown. I think the pierced crown came out in 1943 and is usually plated.

There is now a very good pierced crown fake doing the rounds, it has no die flaw but the construction is very flimsy.

I had heard the first issue to the regiment was an all brass badge followed by a silver plated brass version and then finally the standard WM version.

Luke

Your right, 1942 all brass, 1943 all nickel, Late 1943 pierced crown and post war with slider.

Sorry to pimp another forum so to speak but this is the definitive guide to fake para badges on the net:

http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...chute+regiment

It would be good if we had something like this but I`m afraid I`d be stealing other peoples intellectual property. The best photo on there is the one of the back, that blurred detail is something I`m trying hard to hammer into everyones heads here. It applies to nearly 75 percent of fakes on the market.
