What size is it please
Could it be Household Division related? although these generally appear to incorporate monarch monograms.
Saddle cloth badge?
Band related?
No real idea, just thinking aloud ...

It looks to me like VRI reversed and intertwined to my eyes and if so could be off some Indian uniform either military or other municipal/state employee, banner, cloth etc. Just guessing really

The crown is possibly the late Victorian Imperial Crown.

regards

Hi Simon
We are of the same mind re questioning the size - original posting was by Fred who has kindly replied - apparently quite large at 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches.
Some good suggestions. I hope Fred can 'crack it'.

I can only make out the letters M P (intertwined and reversed).
