Welch Regiment tunic with shooting badges
Hello,
Thought I would share this Welch Regiment 2nd Volunteer Battalion tunic with a number of shooting bullion sleeve badges I recently got. Hope of interest, Best wishes, Pat |

Thats superb, right up my street. I love bullion shooting badges and to find them still on a uniform even better.
Should be easy to trace the wearer. Noted shots were named Morris (private in 1901), Davies (Col. Sgt in 1903). Possibly Pte Morris after promotion to Sergeant? regards

Hello Simon,
Thanks for reply and thoughts on the name, not clear from the partially degraded label, only the Corps: 2nd VB Welch, and possibly Rank: Pte. Name on label I think ends with: .....olds. Have not attempted to trace details / service records of anyone before so not certain how to go about it. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Couldn't resist getting the tunic, think it most interesting and with some associated history related to the Welch Regiment. Pat |

After having a closer look at the faded label, I think the name MAY read as J B Morris though I cannot be certain.
Thanks Simon, wouldn't have thought that without you mentioning this name. Pat |

Pat,
I see a 1912 shooting badge on there so certainly enough time to get promoted from Private to Sergeant. My notes only mention him in 1901 when he was a private. Four years into the TF era is a long time to be still wearing his 2VB tunic, possibly retired in 1908 when the VF was disbanded and allowed to continue as a Honorary Member and wear his uniform. regards

Thanks for feedback and replies, very helpful. Hopefully will be able to find out more relating to the wearer of this tunic.
He must have been a tremendous shot for many years. Rob, Tunic buttons backmark shows Hobson & Sons, Lexington St., London. Both small epaulette buttons have no backmark. Pat |
