Silver Wound Badge - Can anyone ID the owner please

I have just obtained a Silver Wound badge in a small collection I have bought, the number on the back is 273127, is anyone able to identify the recipient please. I will be moving this one on if it does not belong to a member of one of the units I collect to in case anyone is interested.

This thread reminds me that my grandfather was awarded a Silver Wound Badge
issued to him by the War Office (No.Off/2080, stamped 451607 in top right corner of the letter). 9.2.1920.


I have his medals, and a few badges but we never found the SWB amongst his effects


SO - if anyone ever finds SWB 451607, I'd be VERY interested !

Have acquired these two Silver Wound badges with 1st with a low-ish! number 2nd quite a difference!, to whom would these have been for please?

Badge number 311340 was awarded to William Thompson who had the Regimental Numbers 265243 and 500380 and is shown as serving with 12th K.O.R.I. and S.C.L.C. enlisted 01/3/08 and discharged 23/1/18 due to sickness.

Badge number 21881 awarded to Pte Arthur Pickford 13505 Lancashire Fusiliers
enlisted 07/1/15 and discharged 30/6/16 due to sickness.

A bit more info:-

Regarding the badge relating to William Thompson :-

NCLC (I think) is Northern Command Labour Company (on the same page there are entries relating to ECLC, SCLC etc so it's an assumption on my part.) he had also served with 12/KORL (12th Battalion King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment). he enlisted on 1st April 1908 and was discharged 23/1/1918 aged 52. He never served overseas so the SWB is his total entitlement for his WW1 service.


Arthur Pickford served with the 13th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers. He enlisted aged 37 years and 8 months on 7/1/15. He was a Labourer who lived in Middleton, Lancashire. He had previously served with the 1st Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers (sadly I have no idea of when this was). He also had no overseas service (so another soldier's total entitlement for WW1 service). It is noted on his pension records the he wished to return to working in the mills.

They are Silver War Badges, as clearly shown in WO329, a particular recipient did not have to be "wounded" in order to receive one.

Thanks Frank have always known it as a Silver Wound Badge and associate it as such, so have learnt something I didn't know about this badge, have another in a frame but difficult to disassemble to find out its story ( one day ) thank you all for your help

Badge issued to Pte TR/10/60578 Jesse Woodrow Training Reserve Battalion, 104th Training Regiment, Enlisted 27/11/15 and Discharged due to sickness on 27/12/16, Did not serve Overseas.

Simon, Many thanks for your help in this matter, this man served for a year at home, it makes you wonder what he did during that time unless of course he was hospitalised for most of that year.
