Rope gauge
Rummaging among dad-in-law's old naval & military implements, came up with this pocket tool which I have labelled a 'rope gauge' for want of better knowledge. It is made of wood and brass and comprises a sliding rule on one side. The wood is inscribed with panels for Wire Rope, Hemp Rope, Chain, Shroud Tard Hemp Coils, Laid Manila Coils, Hawser Tard Hemp Coils, etc, etc. And yes, it has an incised arrow! It could do with a careful clean but I would leave the paint blob as a personal and nostalgic touch

Hi GTB,
That's a great memento of your father-in-law, not often seen. I have the gauging rod that my father used in his Customs Excise duties. Cheers, John Last edited by Tinto; 15-09-20 at 11:37 PM. |
