Wholly agree Mike, having never seen any evidence of the title being worn by X Troop. One thing that has always puzzled me though, is why Czech's selected for SOE Ops proudly wore their Czech insignia whilst in the UK. You think they would have had an even greater need for anonymity. An interesting article here on Czech SOE with some nice images:

Cracking read thanks Paul. I wish I had this a year or so ago when I was wandering around Prague doing a bit of battlefield tourism.

Middle free french navy breast insignia (my avatar) corresponds to what I personally consider as 2d large distribution pattern (first was embroided; parking aside other small quantities local fabs). ww2 time period.

Left one, not certain, but I would classify it as post ww2 (so am I personally viewing it at least).

Right one end of ww2 France made pattern.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on these badges.

I believe the one of the left is a UK made wartime badge as it shares many similarities with other cloth badges made during the war. I'm happy for this to be proven otherwise but appreciate your opinion.

Hi Paul,

This is what I like with collection, you (I mean myself) always learn.
As said, left pattern, I am unsure. Indeed, this one does not have the main specificities of the main post-war pattern, and you may well be right.

The sole two patterns I am sure of, are the first early one, with 6 sides + post France liberation one (top right one). For sure 1st DFL men have worn losangic ones in-between, maybe your top left is one of these.

Then ... forgot to add a 3rd (early) pattern of divisional emblem, with same shape as top left/right ones, but painted on kind of rubberized material.
