Wyverns
Can anyone comment please on the originality of these two badges.
I am guessing one is original and one is fake. |

I may be missing something, but they both look OK to me.

The fat Wyvern as a friend refers to this pattern is not a type I have ever found an example which looked original until recently.
The new looking badge on the left is extremely crude in its construction and looks like it was made up by one of the current repro manufacturers. The second and very similar badge does have detailed differences which make me more confident in its originality. Both are woven on to poor quality felt with no backing than other probably a glue. This pattern resembles a version which featured in war-time photographs, but they are a long way off from the more usual pattern's which is freely available (see below). |

To me they are both a very late or post WWII paste back example, like the embroidered (not woven) shoulder designations of the same period.

I think they are both ok. I picked up some that are, from memory, identical. I'll have to dig them out. They came with a load of paperwork to a soldier in 43 Div RAMC so I have no reason to doubt them, I'll try to post a scan
