14th (King's) Hussars collar badge

Here is a badge which I believe is a left collar badge, worn pre-1915.

John my understanding was that the collar badge from that era didn’t have fr on the breast of the hawk. I’d be interested in other people’s comments.

This is pre 1915 numeral collar in use. The eagle was worn in India beforehand. The FR is clearly on the eagle in this picture from 1907. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...t=eagle&page=7

It is my opinion that the 14th/20th eagle cap badges were worn with the FR on the chest in the late 20's before being replaced by the sealed pattern plan chested eagle. These were regimentaly procured and reflected the regimental pattern worn in India some 30 years previous.

I would expect the mid 1900 badges to be lugged.

Why the FR was removed is not known but possibly some one in the War Office found some issue with it so the s/p badge was without it.

Hi Tony
Do you have a better picture of the front of the Gaunt bronze badge please?
Is it definitely bronze or japanned black and what length are the loops?
And is the Gaunt stamp an early one?
I'm thinking it might be a very rare cap badge/FSH badge from 1902 to 1915.

Also I can't see the FR on the collars as mentioned by Alan. I thought the only badge to have the monogram was the large NCOs' eagle arm badge until the small unofficial cap badge of 1926.

So the FR collars are Victorian/Edwardian.

I believe so - a regimental pattern worn unofficially in India pre WW1 and then again i German in 1926-29.

Subsequently the KRH replaced the FR n their cap badge in 1992.
