The 'FD' that I know of for our artillery units is short for 'Field', as in '7th Fd Battery, RCA'. Is that what you mean?

It would be odd, to say the least, to have just 'FD' on an armband, IMO.

The patch is a Canadian screened patch for the RCA Field Regiments in the home defence forces during the Second World War. There are also AT examples made the same way, for the Anti-tank regiment. It has been suggested these were for wear on the summer helmets.
