A Strange Attachment to the Rear of this Border Regiment Badge
I wonder if anyone can help. I have attached front & rear photos of a couple of Border Regiment badges I have.
The one on the left looks OK to me from the front and back. However, on the rear it has what I can only describe as a brass staple that covers the voided dragon in the centre. Could such an attachment have been used to hold in place a red badge backing insert behind the voided centre? This would appear logical to me. Or is there another explanation for such a device? If anyone has a similar badge I would also be grateful if you could show me a comparison. The second badge I have some doubts about. The KC is not voided and the badge (including the prong) has been nickel plated at some stage. There is evidence that the nickel plate has worn away at the front. Could this have been a bronze economy badge that was later plated? Or is it just a fake or re-strike or worse?  Thanks for your help, David. Last edited by Gliners; 23-09-08 at 01:34 PM. Gliners, I am in agreement with JJ on the first Border badge.As for the second, IMO it seems to have the five voids found on originals and like JJ said why go to all the troubles to copy a somewhat common badge.Someone with knowledge of economy badges may be able to help.

Gliners, I believe the Border badge was produced in brass in WW1, later these badges were plated for issue as regular badges, possibly worn by 5th Batt when they became part of RAC, 1941?
