Default DORSET REGIMENT - SHOULDER OR CAP?

Hi all, I wanted to ask is this a cap or shoulder. I did a search but nothing similar was seen on here. I tried Dorset shoulder and Dorset cap badge on google but the same result.

Thanks

Simon.

Default Dorset

Any idea of the fixings, it could be a mess waiters turban badge if it is cast.

Hi chap's, no; no idea on fixing. But as you can see from the pic it's nearly twice the height of the 16th lancers one.

Simon.

Rare 16th Lancers badge but the point tips are broken.

That has the appearance of the badge worn by bandsmen on their small pouch.I bet there is a correct term for that.

That appears to be a bandsmans badge.

I agree with sonofacqms. Looking at it, it appears to be cast and takes the form of badges often made up in the regimental bazaar for use on mess waiters turbans. Based on the many bandsman's badges that I have seen over the years, the design is unlikely to be a pouch badge.

The Dorset's have a very good museum and it would be worth you contacting them by email with a photograph: info@keepmilitarymuseum.org

I see the badge was part of a collection on a hate belt which failed to sell as did not reach the reserve.

I fancied a T5 Lincoln title with it.

Would not buy to split up though. PM me if interested in buying and splitting up...if you have the stomach for it that is.

Cheers Dean

Hi,
I checked at The Keep Museum today. They have this badge listed as a bandsmans music card box badge,1st Bn 1881-1901.There is another similar badge lsited as a civilian mess waiters badge.I hope this helps?

Default Belt

I see that this belt has been on ebay. The vendor states: pre-WW1 Dorsetshire Regiment - 1st Battalion mess servant's badge (my thanks to the regimental museum for identification!)
