My most prized collectable item.......
In 2007, I was the Chf Clk at Hillside Camp, in Stanley, FIs. As part of the 25th anniversary of the invasion, we hosted a number of different dignitaries but, by far, the best was the party of nine members of the SAS we hosted. Eight were SAS SAM recipients whilst the 9th, served with the WG in the conflict.
After a horrendous night on the lash in our mess their OC found me the following morning and, in his own words, said, "Sgt G, thank you so very much for a most memorable night and you're clearly a Port man, so please accept this gift as our thank you". Obviously I've never drunk it and never will. In fact, it's still in its original box in my kitchen. Best, John. Last edited by johng505; 09-11-19 at 09:37 PM. Reason: Punctuation correction. |

John, thanks for the story, but surely the 9th member who was WG would also have been SAM, unless he had been left in London. Regards Mark

My fault, I didn't explain it very well. You are right, all nine members fought in the conflict and were awarded the SAM. Eight of them fought in the conflict as members of the SAS. The ninth person fought in the conflict but was a member of the Welsh Guards. He subsequently went on to join the SAS. Sorry for the confusion. Kind regards. John. |
