Mark I Tank Button
Hi,
Would anyone have any information about this button. I was told it could be Canadian, but I'm not too sure. Mark. |

Hello Mark
I have seen a button like this before and it was thought to be a civilian souvenir or 'dress' button rather than an official issue military one. As far as I can recall it is not in any of the reference books I have covering British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand or Indian Army buttons. Regards Roger PS a photo of the back would help as a lot can be gained from looking at the construction and backmark, if any. |

It is not listed as a button worn by the Canadian Tank Battalion or the Canadian Armoured Corps.

I do have this Canadian tank button. I think it's post WWI, but pre WWII?
Mark. |

Hi Mark, in the reference it is identified as the button for the Canadian Armoured Corps circa 1938-48.

Hello Mark
Thanks for posting a view of the back of the button. I would say that this confirms my view that it is not military issue. The style of the button is unlike the vast majority of issue buttons and whilst 'never say never' always applies I am reasonably sure in this instance that it is not military, much more a souvenir type sold to the public. Regards Roger |

Hi Roger,
Thanks for that. I'm sure you are right. They sold all sorts of strange things to raise money for tanks. Mark. |
