Thumbs up Cavalry Badges

Hi All

A big thanks to Neil,Griff,Rob,Alan and Simon for your comments.

Here is a closer version of the 2nd Scots Greys and 6th DG.

(GREYS) lugs look like thin loops. 6th DG all windows are see through and sweat holes and crimp to slider.

hope this will clear things up a bit more.

Thanks Mike.

Re the Greys badge.
I think the flat loop fixings would IMO, indicate its of early manufacture pre WWI, possibly Edwardian/Victorian?
I've seen these fixings on Shoulder titles and Collar dogs as well, in fact I had a 2D shoulder title once with them on.

Happy hunting.

Excellent mate, never seen this type of lug before, but finding out it is before WW1 has made my day.

Best Wishes

Thumbs up Cavalry Badges

Thanks Rob

Learning everyday, to me the badge has great detail and all the feathers run smooth (not out of line)
Some I have seen are all over the place, and the wing tips sit right were they should be. (seen them sitting on the L + R) Its that old gut feeling.
At first I thought they might have been replaced, but if you have come across this before thats good enough for me.

Thanks Again Mike.

Hi Mike, I like your Scots Greys badge, here is a pic of my Black Watch badge with the same type of lugs which I believe is 100% right.

Hi Rob, this pic of the front of my Black Watch badge with similar lugs in my previous post shows a couple of indications of an early KC manufactured badge. Note the spelling of Lacesset and not Lacessit and the die flaw blob below the Sphynx. There are threads on this forum on these matters relating to Black Watch badges if you search.

Hi Jack

Thanks for the photo WELL CHUFFED (these are not cable lugs you put on wire) your badge looks great,
Here is a photo of mine (with the same FLAW) lugs are normal.

Cheers Mike.

Hi Jack

Nice badge. I've got the griff on the spellings 'Lacesset' & 'Lacessit' according to Kipling & King's section on the Black Watch 'all types of badges can be found' with both spellings.
Which is something I did not realise, there again Cavalry is my interest, but you learn something every day.
