Default Lothian and Berwickshire Y broken badge

What do you guys think?

Is this Lothian and Berwickshire Yeomanry badge repairable? I suppose some other crowns would be of similar size but what about the garter strap?

It comes from the helmet I posted here earlier and would really like to restore it. I suppose annother badge might come up sometime but it could be years.

Colin

Hi Colin,
badge looks to be made from very light gauge material and could therefore prove to be difficult to repair also the missing portion I fear would be an issue.
However I am no expert and there are far more qualified members, who will be able to give you a definative answer.
Regards Tony

Hi Colin,

In all honesty, without a ' donor ' badge to cut the missing piece from, I would say very, very difficult, the garter strap and the ' I ' from ' QUI ' could probably be chased back but the band of the crown ! I think I would really struggle................I don't know what magpie would have to say ??

Dave.

Hi colin
Personally i would leave it as it is, the damage probably extends out a good 5mm or more around the bullet hole,it would also be a hard job to marry the two parts together as dave has pointed out and very unlikely to be near invisible and more likely to be very noticeable, i think you would be disapointed with the result and risk losing what you have destroying two or more badges in the process which would probably be expensive and in my opinion wouldn't increase its value or desireability to own it, after all would you pay good money for a badge that been badly butchered in attempt to repair it.
Have got the other half of the badge ?.

Yes I have the whole helmet! Thats why I am so interested in fixing it. I also have the rest of the uniform.

I am on the lookout for a new one but who knows how long that might take. I was also thinking about finding a similar badge and making a cast out of epoxy resin and cutting out the part that would fit in the hole ( I am a plastic model maker so I have more than enough skills to do this) That would suffice till a real one comes along.

Keep your eyes open for me!

I think that you have all the parts on your badge that you need if you think that you can do it.
Is it a bullet hole through the helmet?.
Good luck, i'd like to see it if you manage it.

This is the badge cleaned up, ready for casting once I figure out how I'm going to do it.

If anyone sees one at a show or online I really want to get a new one! Good price paid!
