RFC Badge Query - Solid Backed on One Side
Good evening,
Was recently shown an image of a Royal Flying Corps badge found by a work colleague in a general antique shop with, what to me, is a strange anomaly. As can be seen the left side of the badge is voided whilst the right is solid. Unfortunately he didn't take a picture of the reverse. Any thoughts please, down right fake? Manufacturers error? Regards Simon. |

...just looks like an error when being voided, cut....a curiosity.

Steve,
Many thanks for your reply, a curiosity indeed, I'm hoping for a picture of the reverse next week. Regards Simon. |

Yep, just a "mistake" from that maker. Some badges were "blanked" out using various cutting/ trimming tools with some hand piercing for finer detail.
May well be that this part should have been cut by hand but slipped through the system. |

I would certainly be interested to see it's reverse.

As I was once told:
"Imagine if you've been knocking out a few thousand of something, the concept of "quality control" does tend to vary from day to day..." |

Nothing wrong with the strike, they've just missed out one or more of the piercing stages.
