Second Subaltern Shirley Ormerod, Auxiliary Territorial Service
Hi Forum Members,
A friend has asked me to research the war service of her aunt, Shirley Ormerod, born 1916 in New Zealand. She served in the ATS during WW2 but no other information is known. Can anyone help to find her service number, medal entitlements and records? Thanks, John |

From a New York Times partial article on the Internet
LONDON, July 6 [1943]Women are about to be admitted into the ranks of the "brass hats" in the British Army. Fifty young women officers of the Auxiliary Territorial Service, Britain's equivalent of Wac, are taking the first course for women staff officers at the ATS Junior Staff College near Camberley. Her commission appears in The London Gazette Supplement dated 31st March 1942 where she is listed with the Army Officer's Number 227940. Jon |
