Default South Wales Borderers 1916 Economy

In our hobby it is very difficult to be certain of some things.

However now and again fate throws out a chance.

I recently picked up this badge, which I found by trawling the internet and checking the MIC of the man concerned.

His two (unusual in themselves in that they have both survived) ID discs gave me his Army number, which in turn gave me his basic service details, these then told me that what looked like genuine badges to the Hereford , SWB and RE were probably bang on.

When I got it, it also included a Boer war sweetheart to the Montgomeryshire Y C and a wound stripe. I didn't go for the other two badges.

Everything fits with someone living on the Marches and I have no doubt about the authenticity of the badge shown below in uncleaned and cleaned condition.

1. Discs, red and green.

2. New on the left, Smith & Wright on the right.

3. Reverse of above.

4. New aquisition cleaned showing that beautiful mellow colour that you don't get on the fakes.

5. Reverse of above.

I'm open to opinions, but bear in mind that shooting season is upon us and I may have other things on my mind.

Cofion gorau,

Provinence is everything. I can imagine without it there would be cries of fake due to the lack of rear definition.

I forgot to add his MIC so here it is.

It should now make sense why I was referring to the other badges.
