Central Indian Horse?
This photo shows an officer of 4th Indian Division with metal pips and a two coloured slip-on flash, similar to those worn by battalions of the Royal Tank Regiment in WW2.
The Divisional Orbat in Chris Kempton's Indian Army;Divisions book records the Central Indian Horse as the Division's armoured regiment for most of the war. Can anyone confirm that the regiment wore a slip-on and if so what the colours are please? Jon |

I have seen one photo of CIH officers in an armored vehicle in N. Africa from a bit of a distance, but it appears that they are wearing similar slip on strips to to this.
Unfortunately I do not know what the colors are. A 1945 photo shows officers in BD with metal STs, so I would guess these slip ons were worn only on KD shirts. CB

I'm not sure about the shoulder flash but the regimental colours of the Central India Horse were fawn and chocolate brown (maroon?). You're right about the regt being the Div Recce Regt. If you can read the officer's name it might be possible to check if he was serving with the regt.

Thanks for your comment. Sadly the name is illegible but if the CIH colours were as you say they might just fit the bill of those in the photo.
Will post anything else I can find. Jon |
