Default trade badge colours

Hi,

I know a number of Regiments and Corps used other than Khaki
as the backing colour for "trade" badges on No2 dress.

Does anyone have a list of the colours and users and
which badges were worn.

Thanks
Gordon

My contribution;

yellow/'maize' Light Infantry
Rifle green Rifle Brigade
Red Gurkhas

I am sure there are more, but thats all I can think of for now. Except, in the PWRR we wore standard '2' badges with a dark blue surround, does that count?

There is a comprehensive list - a table, in fact, in the back of Langley and Edwards book on Trade & Proficiency Badges. But some more:

Black on Rifle Green, detail picked out in Gold Wire: Royal Green Jackets (and 21 SAS say some)
Green on Beech Brown - Women's Royal Army Corps
Green on Black - Royal Irish Rangers

Khaki/white details on scarlet background - Duke of Wellington's Regiment

The Staffords wore standard trade and rank badges but with a black cloth background.
2nd Gurkhas wore red on black as did the Army Apprentice Colleges(no S/Sgt rank).
17th/21st wore gold on white in No1 dress as do the QRL.

Minor point

Its Black on Scarlet - As do the Army Foundation Collage at Harrogate today on a No2 Dress Material Brassard so not to mark the jacket. Green Rank Slides are worn on Combat Dress with Red Chevrons with AGC under Platoon Colour bar.

Default TRADE BADGES

If you look at the posters "All the signs of a specialist 1 & 2", they show lots of various colour trade badges.
I am short of 6th,7th, 10th Ghurka pipers badge, 2nd Ghurka AT badge, 6th, 7th,10th Ghurka carpenter & joiner badge and also the Royal irish Ranger Medic badge. There is some question that this badge was ever issue.

I agree that the R IRISH Medic badge may never have existed or been issued. However, I do have a 2GR Anti-Tank but it is a sealed pattern from 1963.

I wonder if many if any were issued and if the Gurkhas had Anti-Tank platoons?

Me too. The only badges from the posters (All the signs of a specialist 1 & 2) I do not have are 6/7/10GR Piper, 2GR Mortar, R IRISH Medic and 2GR Driver (star).

Is there any diffence between the green backing worn by Gurka units and the current Rifles?
