Default Brass Young Citizens Volunteers

After considerable searching I’ve finally obtained the genuine article in GM of this much faked badge to the 14th Royal Irish Rifles (Young Citizen Volunteers).

Posted for benefit of members and reference here until I get around to creating my Pals album.

Hi Luke,

not sure if this is even possible, but could the GM and WM come from the same die? Given the scarcity of (real) ones, there may not have been too many makers of these?

Cheers, Tim

Hi Tim,

Yes that’s right. Same die as this one, note the very distinctive crown and jewels. This sort hasn’t been restruck from the original die.

Cheers,

Luke

Very well done Luke,

A superb little badge and a fine testament to your diligent research.

Cheerio,

Roy

Default Brass Young Citizens Volunteers

Good evening all,

A recent purchase from gnmilitaria, albeit, thanks to the Royal Mail, it still hasn't landed !

It seems to 'tick the boxes' with a narrow base to the crown, straight central vein to the the middle leaf and wrist evident, but having just seen Luke's, I'm now wondering whether it's correct.

Your thoughts please gents.............

Cheers,

Mike

From the photographs, I don't think that is original.

A wise decision.

This year I was very fortunate to acquire another GM example this time with a slider fixing from Colin’s excellent Steady the Buff’s site. Hopefully he does not mind me using his picture.
