Default Hello

Firstly, thankyou for accepting me into the forum!

The reasons for me joining are that my Grandfather has recently passed away and served under the Sherwood Foresters, over the years he has collected circa 1000 cap badges and dog collars which we do not really have much information on. We are aware of a few of the ones collected but the majority i think he has just accumulated over the years of which could contains some reproductions. We intend on keeping a couple of which hold sentimental value but the remainder we intend on selling as we just do not have the space! I have attached the images taken and appreciate you cannot see the backs to verify their legitimacy but any comments or information or even appraisals would be great!

There are more than the attached but unfortunately i can’t upload more than 15 images.

Thanks for reading and i look forward to seeing any light which can be shed!

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for your loss.

Closer up images are needed, I’d suggest maybe taking pictures of sections of boards rather than the whole boards themselves. Some will require pictures of the back too.

However, from what I can see there are quite a lot of fakes I’m afraid, I can see several tall orb Arty fakes, the Royal Naval Division badges all look fake, top row of B’ham Pals are all fakes would need better images of the bottom row but there may be hope for those, the Airborne/SF card looks mostly all fakes as too is the London card, the brass/GM cavalry majority are fakes too.

Again sorry for the loss of your Grandfather ,welcome to the Forum , I agree with Luke in his thoughts on your badges, as suggested there might be a chance on a few that could be ok & again as Luke said some clearer pictures of both front and back ( in our hobby the backs as important, if not more than the front) would be a good idea , are you planning on once assed good or bad selling to forum members?

Gerard

Thankyou both, as mentioned we have no real idea and there is that many! we did have an inkling to many being fakes / placeholders as i know this was just something he enjoyed doing with no access to the internet he would have just browsed small shops and acquired them that way just as a hobby! i have an appointment to take them into a shop to get them looked at, it’s just interesting as we had no real idea as to how many he actually had as the birds were stored in a wardrobe! once they have been looked at in person i will keep you posted as to what the findings were 👍🏼 appreciate your help!

In regards to selling them, i will confirm the findings and see whether they are of interest to anyone on here, once we have a vague idea hopefully i can provide the ones worth selling with images of both front and back to see if anyone is after any👍🏼
