Liverpool Scottish Cameron Glengarry for datation
Hello,
Here is a glengarry (GG) cap with a Liverpool Scottish Cameron badge. Absolutely not my square field. I found it in UK, while I lived in England, and as the seller was not asking a lot for it and I always found this kind of cap nice, I took it, also because of the nice story he served me «*freshly brought to him from the GG bearer and ex ww2 vet widow*». Despite (and should say because of) the «*WD 43*» stamp inside, I tend to think that it is here about a post ww2 GG, for following reasons: 1/- Should use a letter code for the year, instead of a millesime; 2/- Thouroughly looking at the top of it, seems that there it received a few cutter cuts, later nicely sewn and difficult to spot, if you are not aware about how these caps used to be ‘removed from service’ during the post-ww2 years (I was said). What do you think of this GG cap, its «*WD 43*» stamp & badge? British army used? Fake stamp added later? Likely period of use? I would say it is late 1940s and into the 1950s. The stamp looks to have just the last two numbers with the first of three numeral erased to give the impression of a ww2 date.
I would remove the badge and clean it as the verdigris will continue to build up and damage the cap. CB

Anatomical features (floppy hands and feet) on this particular badge has been deemed a copy.
The unit was issued Anodised Aluminium badges in the 1960s but I understand that they didn't like it so they ordered a WM badge (as yours) from a company thought to be in SE Asia. (I don't know about the headgear but one often comes across the wrong badge on the wrong headgear) Last edited by KLR; 03-09-20 at 11:12 AM. |

Did the Cameron's not have a plain bonnet rather than a with a diced band ? If so,would this have applied to the Liverpool Scottish?

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your replies & advices, which, from what I understand, confirm my doubts (post ww2 cap), and diced band/badge/datation consistency. PB: nice group pic! Thanks & Best Regards, JD |
