Help on ID please - Is this a New Zealand Unit Badge?
Hi All,
Some help please. This is a very well made badge, die cast bronze finish, two original loops and maker marked (very small gaunt mark, this one is ok with the central full stop), and regimental motto Fortes Fortuna Juvat (Fortune Favours the Brave). I know that a number of units have used this motto: It is the motto of the Sri Lanka Navy's Special Boat Squadron. It is the motto of the Danish Army's Jydske Dragonregiment. It is the motto of the British Army's Yorkshire Regiment (14th/15th, 19th, 33rd/76th Foot). It is the motto of the United States Marine Corps 3rd Infantry Regiment. (active from 20th December 1916) It is the motto of the New Zealand 9th Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles However, the design does not seem appropriate to any of these. It is circa 3.5mm tall and possibly a collar badge given its size. Could it be an OTC unit perhaps, associated with Yorkshire? Three photos included. Thanks in anticipation. Without doubt, thank you. In your opinion do you think it is their cap badge or a collar? Brilliant, you have made my night

Hi
Regular Force cadets cap or left collar badge (both the same size). According to Oldham, worn by Senior Cadet Officers from 1911 to 1921, Training Cadre from 1927, unposted Regular Service Recruits from 1932 to 1950 and troops stationed at fanning Island during WW2. The badge was adopted for use by regular Force cadets in 1950 and was plated in silver or chrome from 1952. Cheers John |
