Default Highland and Lowland Regiments

Could anyone comment about these. I'm not sure that they're right.

Both fakes I’m afraid.

As a rule the genuine Lowland badges had 4 lugs and the Highland lugs were placed centrally. Yours are slightly above centre which is seen on some, but not all, fakes.

There are other tell-tales as well.

I wouldn't buy it, I'd rather look for a 4 lugged one and not be guessing.
Cheers,
Alex

Cool How can we consider seller is reliable, then ?

Thank you Alex for your advice, but it seems to be hard to find out actual period badges thru all sites (not mentionning ebay where I was just looking for Lowland badges samples). Most seem to have good reputation or nice box for authentic items. One sales Fox brass restrike badges (and indicating it, which is nice from him) but, 100 years+ old badges are also antiques, even if not Victoria period, is itn't ? I began to be a collector for 3 years on only two sites which seem to know what they propose but, after the "two lugs affair" one sold on ebay, it seems to be suspect...

Again, look at the cunning lengths the faker as gone to by bending the lugs in order to convince you they are right. I'm guessing the two lugs aren't central as it's easier to solder onto a flat surface? Really sorry you were coned out of hard earned money by a fraudster.

There are genuine examples for sale at the moment on Geoff Newman Militaria, Minden Militaria & Cultman Collectables... however the prices being asked are top end. There’s also a genuine badge on a ‘buy it now’ on eBay for £48.

Personally I think it’s perhaps worth waiting and keeping an eye out on eBay as they can be had at bargain prices because they fall into the ‘faked to death category’. Best of luck in your hunt.
