That version had a crown above. The recruiters was just the cypher.

Ah, I didn't realise that, the "London Types" Recruiting Sergeant appears to be wearing the cypher with crown above. I attempted to post a cropped image of the badge but for some reason have been unable to.

The last one I saw was in one of Bosley's sales and they provided the attribution.
It's quite possible that more than one variant was used. It's not an area that I have looked into that much. |

A couple of years late - the buttons for Inspector of Army Schools are described in Dress Regs 1900 as showing the crown and having the scalloped surround as they are in Dress Regs 1904, however the latter specifies the cap buttons don't have the surround.
