Militia Medical Staff
I hope someone can answer this. I have in my collection a cap badge and collar badge for the RAMC Militia and a Militia Medical Staff Corps collar. I also have a sword acid etched on the blade with a Militia Medical Staff.
Question is, what cap/hat badge or helmet plate was worn by the Militia Medical Staff Corps? |

Not sure what cap badge was worn as I have only ever seen collar badges to the "Militia Medical Staff Corps" and all of the RAMC pattern.
I suspect but have no evidence that they may have worn the earlier Medical Staff Corps glengarry badge as a cap badge. |

RAMC
Hi Jermil,
Attached is an extract of a postcard with medical personnel amongst a group of what I take to be Royal Field Artillery personnel because they are wearing girdles. I presume it to be post-1905 and prior to the Great War. They maybe RAMC rather than RAMC (M) but it shows both the officer and OR wearing collar badges. The OR has a cap badge, the officer has a plate, presumably the Departmental Corps plate. My assumption would be that the RAMC(M) wore the same items as the RAMC, with the whitemetal/silver 'M' attached like artillery and engineers. Keith |

I have the RAMC (M) O/R cap badge, haven’t yet seen an Officers version but I assume they exist.
The MMSC cap badge is the one I can’t figure out. I can’t say I have ever seen the RAMC Helmet Plate with an ‘M’ either. Pic is of RAMC (M) cap and collar, I need another to make a pair and the MMS sword blade etch |

I have a few of the ‘M’ badges, all of which I know to be genuine, all these have the M fixed by metal pins, prongs or similar, apart from the RAMC ones which are soldered on, the examples in the IWM are also soldered so I am happy these are genuine.
Still need to find the Officers RE(M) in silver gilt though. |
