OK, on the subject of berets, I keep reading about a badge that looks like a typical cap badge to me, but listed as a "beret badge". What is the difference between a beret badge and a cap badge. Is it the length of the slider?
Thanks, Terry |

Generally the same thing. A few regiments do have different cap and beret badges but most are the same badge.
In some cases the badges date to a period of wear when only berets were worn. The Paras only wear berets in all orders of dress so their 'cap badges' are by default 'beret badges'. The opposite would be the Welsh Guards who cap badges are metal where as they have for a number of years worn cloth badges in their berets. |

WRAC Officer attached to Royal Tank Regiment?
Here are two WRAC officers beret badges that I have. First is usual dark/rifle green backing but the second definitely has a black background.
Back in the 1970s-1980s many major units had WRAC Assistant Adjutants, is it possible that a WRAC officer attached to a Royal Tank Regiment unit wore a black beret with this badge? Tim

Tim, Very interesting. I assumed mine was on a black background as well. I'll have to take a picture and post it. It is RFU and definitely shows age. Maybe it is really rifle green???

The original beret colour was 'Bottle Green' the same colour as the Number 1 Dress.
