Default kharki beret

which units would have worn this in 1944?
most articles on kharki berets seem to be refering to the GS cap.

Weren't these just issued as replacements for, or officers' versions of, the GS cap from 1945? That's certainly how I've always understood it, though I might be wrong.

My 1944 dated beret was likely worn by an officer; but most were worn by Recce and motorized inf units as Lee stated.

I have my Grandfather's dated 1944 and he was with R.C.E.M.E. (PACIFIC) That didn't deploy, I will try to get a picture of it.

in new Zealand these were issued as general service hats around 1944, most were made in the UK but some were made here as well, also issued for nz forces in japan up to approx. 1948
