Default Fake or genuine?

The last of my suspect purchases!
RHA: it was described as an officers cap badge, but again I am not sure if it's genuine or fake.
Royal Welsh Fusiliers: the crown looks a bit dodgy, does this mark it out as a fake?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Regards,
Leo

I bought one of those RHA badges last week, it had been brooched hence the scorching where I’ve blowtorched the pin off to reinstate the loops. It’s silver plated so that will revive afterwards.

At 35mm high it’s a collar badge though, according to Westlake & Churchill’s small book.

Many thanks to all of you for your feedback. To be honest I'm just happy the RHA is genuine as I wasn't actually bothered if it was an officers or not, it was just the only RHA I could find at the time! Also glad the Fusiliers appears to be genuine. I guess I worry about small details as I'm new to badge collecting (as I've said multiple times now!).

Leo

Keith,
Many thanks for additional info. A collar badge will have to do then until I can find a decent cap badge.

Leo

This RHA Cypher is one of the earliest, although not necessarily an officer’s, made by Firmin for GvR Jubilee for E Bty in India. The same was used for EviiiR and GviR: all with a long slider.
However the same GviR cypher but with lugs, continued to be made by Firmin with the solid back, although the issue cypher was in die struck brass.E Bty returned from India in 1938 to U.K. But some RHA Regiments preferred the wm version at private expense, until eventually all wore this version. Later the officer version had a fretted look. I have some 17 versions of the cypher, I think, from GvR to the present day.

This pattern of badge was not worn as a collar badge by RHA Officers. Also it was not worn as a Cap badge.

54Bty, many thanks for the additional information/thread. Although I am now not sure what I've got, I'll keep it until I can find an alternative RHA badge that I'm 100% happy with.

Leo
