Mercian vs Mercian
How can you tell the difference between a Mercian Regiment and a Mercian Brigade cap badge? Is there any?

Mercian Brigade officers badges are of a frosted silver gilt finish, regiment officers badges are slightly larger than Brigade examples and are either bronze (for the SD hat) or improved metal for the beret and No1 Dress Hat. The officers improved metal badge is on lugs and slightly smaller than the ORs which is on s slider. Hope that makes sense PL |

Quick visual help: the brigade tail feathers fan outwards and beaks touch the wings, the regiment tail feathers fan inwards and there is space between beaks and wings.

Size is the main difference.

The Mercian Brigade/Volunteers badge has silver legs, the Mercian Regiment has gold legs and clipped wings.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks Mercian. Talking of which. I got my records from Glasgow and found that although I thought I'd enlisted into The North Staffords, in 1958, I had in fact enlisted into the Mercian Brigade. I wore the North Staffords cao badge on enlistment but transferred to REME before the Staffords badge was being worn.
